- In the “entry” pathways, light, containing all the colours of the rainbow, is transformed into a pinkish radiance, because melanin and haemoglobin absorb some of the colours, mainly blue (2 and 3).
- On contact with collagen, this pinkish light is diffused in the dermis and redirected towards “the exterior” (4).
- In the “exit” pathways, it passes through the same layers and is enriched with red tones from haemoglobin (5) and ochre tones from melanin (6), before being redeployed at the surface (7) signing skin’s particular
colour and radiance.

LANCÔME DECRYPTS THE INNER LIGHT OF PERFECT SKIN
In order to indentify the key components of perfect skin’s INNER LIGHT, our Laboratories have conducted a major - LANCÔME EXCLUSIVE - study on 770 women, aged between 15 and 74 years old. Quantified by a new optical method which measures re-emission of inner light, and by a panel of experts, our study proves the important roles PINKISH and BLUISH light play in the intensity and purity of inner light.
PINKISH LIGHT:
INTENSITY and VIVIDNESS of skin’s inner light.
Being the principal light re-emitted by skin, pinkish light signs skin’s inner light intensity and vividness. It determines skin’s RADIANCE and its healthy glow. When microcirculation decreases, pinkish light loses intensity and skin’s inner light its global radiance. Complexion becomes greyish and dull-looking.
BLUISH LIGHT:
PURITY and FRESHNESS of skin’s inner light.
Although bluish light is the smallest component of skin’s inner light, it is essential as it provides its pristine freshness and purity. There is also a PERFECT correlation between complexions perceived as flawless (fresh, transparent and radiant) and the bluish component of inner light.
But bluish light is also the most fragile light as it is the 1st to be absorbed by melanin: it diminishes regularly with age, as it is increasingly absorbed by rising levels of melanin. Complexion thus loses the crystalline freshness of the most beautiful skin.

FLAWLESS SKIN INDEX
The index created by our Research Laboratories to identify the 3 principal make-up criteria for flawless skin: resplendence, refined texture and complexion uniformity. This index was assessed for 4 ethnic groups (European, Asian, Hispanic, African) and enabled us to evaluate the efficacy of Teint Miracle within different criteria, versus bare skin and other market reference products.
HAEMOGLOBIN
Haemoglobin is a pigment that gives blood its red colour: its principal role is to transport oxygen through the body. It partially absorbs light radiation and diffuses a rosy colour.
INNER LIGHT
Light re-emitted from deep within the skin after interaction with the epidermis and dermis (this represents around 40%).
MELANIN

PIGMENT
